Jeanne Shaheen: All Talk, No Walk

Shaheen’s Job-Killing Recipe: More Debt, More Spending, Higher Taxes

CONCORD – With Federal discretionary spending up 24 percent since President Obama took office, Senator Jeanne Shaheen continues to talk about fiscal responsibility while voting against measures that would control spending, debt, and provide tax relief.

In an interview with the Concord Monitor, Shaheen criticizes Congress for holding up jobs.  What Shaheen didn’t say is that all these projects rely on federal funds paid for by taxpayers.  Of course this isn’t the first time Shaheen has advocated higher taxes and more government spending.  In 2001, Shaheen, as governor, proposed a statewide sales tax.

Among the many outrageous claims:

“Shaheen said the budget process coming out of the U.S. House has been ‘very short-sighted’ in failing to make investments that would spur economic growth and create jobs.”
Senator Shaheen opposed a resolution supporting a Balanced Budget Amendment.

She even voted against a relatively small $61 billion spending cut.

“Shaheen said the United States should change its market incentives to encourage the development of renewable and alternative energy sources, such as wind, solar and carbon capture technology.”
The strength of America’s economy will determine if we can create new jobs in the private sector.  Our economy needs energy that is reliable, inexpensive, and independent if it is going to be strong.  Senator Shaheen lives in a fantasy where fossil fuels are unacceptable when they come from America, but they’re good when we import them from far-flung, unstable countries, some of whom hate America.

In response to this outrageous spin without substance, Christine Baratta, Communications Director for the New Hampshire Republican Party commented,

“Senator Shaheen says that 'fiscal discipline is the New Hampshire way, but for far too long it hasn’t been the Washington way.'

She touts New Hampshire families’ common sense values and ability to live within a budget, but then she goes to Washington and contributes to the out of control spending.  Democrat Jeanne Shaheen refuses to support even small spending cuts while the debt is ballooning.  Voters are watching very closely and won’t be fooled by her words.  Her record speaks to her true beliefs.  In 2001, Shaheen’s Sales Tax was defeated.  In 2010, her party was repudiated across New Hampshire and the country for its overspending and big government policies.  Apparently, Senator Shaheen still hasn’t learned that taxing and spending is not the New Hampshire way.”
