The Bud Martin camp has deployed a ruthless “hired gun” — a campaign manager who once posed an opposing candidate in Nazi regalia — to eviscerate Republican opponent Jeb Bradley in the race for state Senate, the GOP is complaining.

“They brought in a specialist in campaigns based on personal attacks and distortion instead of discussion of the issues,” party chair John E. [sic] Sununu said in a release this week attacking Martin campaign guru, Joe Elcock.

Elcock was fired from the 2006 Coleen Rowley campaign for Congress in Minnesota after the campaign doctored a photo of GOP opponent John Kline to look like Nazi Col. Klink from "Hogan's Heroes," the GOP revealed this week.

Elcock, who did not return a phone call Thursday, has attempted to blame a lower-level staffer. The Rowley campaign meant it as a humorous stunt, but it fueled outrage and an apology from Rowley, conservative Web site Granite Grok reported.

“In a bizarre and contradictory statement, Elcock also said, 'It wasn't the intention of the campaign to make John Kline look like a Nazi,'" GraniteGrok reported.
